Education
Hans de Jong was born in 1932 in Leiden (The Netherlands) and was trained in industrial design at the Institute of Applied Arts (now Rietveld Academy) in Amsterdam (1954-1958).

Career
From 1959 onwards Hans de Jong had his own studio. At first in Amsterdam (until 1963). After that he moved to Laren, in 1973 to Westbeemster and in 1985 to Oegstgeest. He now lives in Rheden (stopped his ceramic production in 2003).

Production
His work consists mostly of figurative scupture, inspired by his surroundings. The decoration is usually modest, scratched and stamped in. His figures are humorous. Hans de Jong started out working in earthenware, in 1963 he switched to stoneware.
