Education
Jan de Rooden was born in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, in 1931. He is self-taught as a potter/ceramist artist.

Career
In 1956 he worked at the studio of Lucie Q. Bakker. He started his own studio in Amsterdam in 1958 with Johnny Rolf. He studied abroad on a number of bursary's/grants and he was invited as a studio-guest at the Gustavsberg factory in Sweden in 1966.

Production
Jan de Rooden made mostly slab-built stoneware sculptural vessels with splashed glazes or geometric designs.
